Money-saving tips for home owners

If you use heating oil to heat your home, this could be really valuable information for you:

Homeowners can register for FREE pollution liability insurance that will cover up to $60,000 in cleanup costs if your heating oil tank leaks and causes an environmental problem. To register, call the Pollution Liability Insurance Agency at 1-800-822-3905 or visit www.plia.wa.gov for more details.

I am constantly amazed by how much information is available online to help with home projects, though I try to remember that you can’t believe everything you read.

Here are links to some reputable Do-It-Yourself websites. A good rule of thumb is to look for “references” on two or more sites that corroborate the info before embarking on a repair or home project.

DoItYourself.com  Provides article and videos on a host of topics. User ratings included. Forums are moderated by professionals, however not all home project questions will be answered by professionals.

DIYnetwork.com  Provides “how to” info on home improvement projects, landscaping projects and woodworking projects. Message boards include an even wider range of topics.

MonkeySee.com  User-rated videos about home projects, produced by both experts and everyday folk.

ThisOldHouse.com  Articles, newsletters, videos and discussion boards concerning home improvement projects, products, tools and planning.

AutoZone.com  Your guide to all things auto-repair.

YouTube.com  What can’t you find on YouTube?
